How Hebrew works (2)

You need to take a look at How Hebrew Works (1) to get an idea of how Hebrew is read from right to left.

\Ok. Take a look at Ecclesiastes 1:1, the third word below.

דִּבְרֵי קֹהֶלֶת בֶּן־דָּוִד מֶלֶךְ בִּירוּשָׁלָםִ׃

 This is... בֶּן־דָּוִד

We will skip the first part of it for now. Look at

דָּוִד

Ok. At the following URL, you will find the Hebrew alphabet:

http://www.jewfaq.org/alephbet.htm

What you can guage from this is that the first letter and third letter in דָּוִד is 'D'.

Can you guess what it might mean?

Now, I mentioned previously that vowels are written under the consonant. So the vowel under the first letter is "a".

Ok. Now reading from right to left, can you guess what the word is?

One more... the middle letter is a vav or 'v'. You should be able to guess the word now. Let us look at the another word:

בִּירוּשָׁלָםִ
  I'll give you the בִּ
 It means 'in"

The first letter after it is is 'Y', and the second letter is 'r". It looks like the english 'r' written backwards. These letter are in Psalm ___ also, BTW.

Now, reading from right to left, noting that the  "T" is the vowel "a" and checking against the Hebrew alphabet provided in the alphabet above, can you guess what the word is?

"in Yrushalem"
